BALCLUTHA DISTRICT NEWS
(From Opr Own Correspondent.) BALCLUTHA, May 14. All the South Otago football matches were played away from Balclutha yesterday. Results were as follows: —Senior Grade—Crescent 23, Clutha 0; Owaka 20, Star 0; Toko 8, Clinton 6; Woodlands, a bye. Second Grade —Crescent 6, Toko 0; Union 9, Coast 0; Waiwera 6, Clutha 0; Valley, a bye. Third GradeToko 6, Crescent 0. Owing to the term holidays the match between the South Otago and Milton High Schools, which was to have been played at Balclutha, did not take place.
ACCIDENT. Mr Crawford King, eldest son of Mr Adam King, the well-known sheep breeder of Stony Creek, met with a peculiar accident on Thursday afternoon at Barnego. Mr King, together with his brother Eric, was engaged in carting turnips in a field when Eric was charged by a bullock that had jumped the fence from the road. He was knocked down, after he had struck the animal a'severe blow with a stick. The bullock stumbled and fell, and, as Mr Crawford King rushed to his brother’s assistance; it rose and charged him. He put his left hand out and one of the animal’s horns pierced through the palm of his hand. Mr Crawford King is now in Balclutha Hospital as a result of the injury to his left hand, and is progressing well.
POULTRY WINNERS. At the Invercargill Show this 'week Mr W. Keen (Balclutha) secured first prize for White Wyandotte pullet and Mr Jefferson (Stirling) first for Minorca pullet. Other South Otago prize winners were C. Fallowfield (Balclutha), W. Jarvis (Kaitangata), R. S. Jarvie, And B. Peoples (Kaitangata).
