APPLE SEASON OPENS
CEREMONY IN LONDON LONDON, May 5. Amid an attractive exhibition of fruit at Australia House and in the presence of many representatives of the trade, Mr S. M. Bruce opened the apple season. He said the display represented four million cases that were coming to Britain, including • Queensland’s first shipment of apples. Australia was endeavouring to maintain the highest standards of produce, and to earn the goodwill of British housewives. Mr Hill said that South Australia and other States were aiming to keep fruit true to label, and to ensure continuity of supply. He emphasised that it was necessary for Australia to increase her trade in order to meet interest indebtedness.
