ITALIAN EXECUTED SWEETHEART ALSO SENTENCED. ROME, May li. An Italian naval petty officer named Ugo Traviglia was convicted yesterday of “ grave military espionage in the interests of a neighbouring State,” and was shot in the back to-day. A woman named Camilla Agliardi was sentenced to death. The execution is being delayed pending an appeal for mercy to the King. The case was tried before a special tribunal in camera. The announcement of the execution of Traviglia was the first intimation to the public. WOMAN’S SENTENCE COMMUTED. ROME, May 11. Traviglia and his sweetheart Camilla faced the judges together. They intimated that they wished to die together, but at the time Traviglia was facing the firing party the King of Italy was signing the commutation of the woman’s sentence to life imprisonment. All preparations were made for shooting the woman when the King’s order arrived, and Camilla was taken back to gaol. Traviglia asked as his last wish not to be blindfolded and shot in the chest instead of the back, but the request was refused. Traviglia then addressed the firing party: “Sailors!
