CAPPING CARNIVAL
Dunedin is well acquainted with the annual Capping Carnivil of the Otago University, which will be the chief attraction for the citizens next week. The Capping Book, with its exuberant satire in prose, verse, and illustration on well-known local and national personalities and recent events, will be offered for sale in the streets by students in fancy costume on Tuesday. On Tuesday evening the Capping Ball will be held in the Town Hall ; n honour of the graduates of the year-. Wednesday will be Capping Day, when students will enjoy the selfconferred “ freedom of the city.” The Capping Procession will pass through the main streets of the city at mid-day, concluding with the delivery of the “ Mayor's Speech ” from the balcony in the Octagon. Many amusing “stunts” and burlesques are promised, and a collection in aid of unemployment will be taken up. Theatregoers will find a thoroughly enjoyable evening’s entertainment at the Capping Concert, which is to be held at His Majesty’s Theatre on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Bright, topical farces, rousing student choruses, interludes, burlesque dancee, and the gently satirical Sextet will be the principal features of the programme. The mayoral elections, local and national politics, current events of all kinds, and recent theatrical and film productions should provide wide opportunities for the usual parodies and absurdities of book, concert, and procession.
