WILL ECHO IN COURT
» SIR THOMAS LIPTON'S ESTATE. i There was an echo of the will of the ', late Sir Thomas Lipton in the Chancery ' i Division in London in March. ''■ The will and four codicils were before ' ! Mr Justice Bennett, on the application ' of the trustees, one of whom was Lord ( ! Inverforth, for a decision whether the . provision, by the fourth codicil, for a I conversion of testator's house, Osidge, at , Sonthgate, Middlesex, into a hostel for ! nurses, with an endowment fund of " £20,000, was a valid charitable trust. '- Counsel for the trustees explained that '-' Sir Thomas made this provision in • memory of his mother. It had not yet . been found possible to distribute the I residuary estate—first, because of the ' difficulties which had arisen as to the 1 joint effect of the will and codicils, and, 1 second, because the bulk of the estate was I in America, and it had not yet been posl siblo to realise it to advantage. • The judge stated that he would make a declaration that the provision constituted a valid charitable trust, and dii rected that the trustees should bring in a scheme to administer it.
