UNEMPLOYMENT RELIEF

LOCAL OPERATIONS WORK FOR TO-DAY D.C.C. Reserves Department.—Group 229 will commence at 8 a.m. to-day at the Rest Home, Roslyn. Groups -Disbanded. —On completion of their allocation of work for the week ending May 13,.the following groups will be disbanded:— 262, 285, 533. Any member of the' above groups desiring further relief work should call at the Labour Bureau, Town Hall.

MAYOR'S RELIEF ORGANISATION

The Mayor (Mr R. S. Black) wishes to repeat the fact that arrangements have been made for maternity outfits to be available at all depot's. The St. John Ambulance Association and various sewing guilds have in hand the making of the necessary articles, and the Mayor's relief organisation will supply the new material, *

Applications are to be made to the depot in the district where the applicants reside. At the meeting of the executive of the Mayor's relief organisation held on April 27 it was arranged that coal be supplied to the registered unemployed on the basis of four bags a month—Kaitangata at 2s 3d each and Taratu at Is 9d each — and two bags of firewood at Is each. It was decided also that men going into relief camps be supplied with outfits.

SALVATION ARMY APPEAL As a result of the severity of weather conditions, the Samaritan officer of the Salvation Army (Adjutant Coombs) makes an appeal for a little extra assistance for the purpose of relieving the most pressing needs of the afflicted and unfortunate in the city at the present time.
