OTAGO RUGBY UNION

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE The weekly meeting of the Management Committe of the Otago Rugby Football Union was held last evening. The president (Mr J. Mitchell) occupied the chair. TRANSFERS. The following transfers were granted:— J. Garside, Zingari-Richmond to Union; A. Middleman and W. Baird, Star (South Otago 1 to Taieri; S. Park, North Shore (Auckland) to Kaikorai; J. W. H. Smith, Waitahuna to Port Chalmers; F. L. L. Britt and E. G. Seales, Berhampore (Wellington) to Southern. A PLAYER DISCIPLINED. The referee in the Pirates v. Union Third Grade match on Saturday (Mr G. "Strode) wrote reporting that he had ordered off the field a member of the Union team, who had persistently disputed his decisions, with the result that the whole team had left the field. The player concerned and the referee appeared before the meeting. Mr Harris said that the captain of the Union team should have also appeared before the committee. #. After hearing the statements of _ the referee and of the player, it was decided that the player should be suspended for one playing Saturday, and that the captain be asked to appear before the committee next Monday, and be suspended in the meantime. It was further decided to write to the clubs stressing the necessity for some responsible person to be in charge of the junior teams, and to communicate with the Referees' Association, .asking referees to takethe names of players ordered off or cautioned. NORTH v. SOUTH ISLAND MATCH.

Mr Douglas Spedding drew attention to the fact that it was 25 years since a North v. South Island match had been played in Dunedin. There were many of the well-known players from the North Island whom the local followers of the game had never seen in action, and for this reason he thought that the New Zealand Union should be asked to allot this year's North v. South Island fixture to Dunedin. * Mr D. M. Stuart eaid he did not think it advisable to have the match in Dunedin. In view of the fact that an Otago team would be going on tour, and owing to the visit of the Australian Universities' team, the number of club matches would be sufficiently curtailed. Mr T. O'Shea eaid he did not see why club fixtures should be curtailed as a result of teams going on tour. Mr H. Harris said he thought that as there wa.s no tour by a New Zealand team in view, the North v. South Island game would not be so important as usual this year, and it was probable that if the match were played in Dunedin the best players from the north would not make the trip. He would be in favour of the fixture being allotted to Dunedin in the near future, but he did not think that it would be opportune this year. Mr Spedding moved a resolution _ in terms of his suggestion, and the motion, which was seconded by Mr W. Glengarry, was carried. GENERAL. Permission was granted to the Civil Service Harriers' Club to run its mile race during the half-time interval of the second game at Carisbrook on Saturday. A letter was received from the Marlborough Union, stating that it hoped to be able to send a vipiting team to Otago this season.—lt was decided' to instruct the local delegates to the annual meeting at Wellington to meet and discuss the matter with the Marlborough delegates. ) The secretary of the Southern Club wrote requesting permission to enter a Fourth Grade B team in the Fourth Grade competition, although some of the boys in the team were over the grade age limit. The team was agreeable, if allowed to play, to forfeit any flag points gained.—lt was decided that permission be granted on the condition suggested. The secretary of the Otago Women's Hockey Association wrote requesting the use of the University Ground on Logan Park on June 3, for the association's annual seven-a-side tournament.—lt was decided to advise the association to apply to the University Club, stating that the union had no objection to relinquishing the ground on that date. > The secretary of the West Taieri Club wrote advising that a member of its executive who had been reported for abusing the referee in a match in which the club was engaged had been reprimanded by the executive and had resigned. The club gave an assurance that it would use every endeavour to see that there would be no recurrence of such incidents. —It was decided to thank the club for its action.
