(From Our Own , Correspondent.) LAWRENCE. April 29. RETURNED SOLDIERS’ ASSOCIATION. In the annual report of the local branch of the Returned Soldiers? Association to be presented at the annual meeting on Wednesday night it is reported that the Poppy Day appeal realised £2B 14s Id. The parent body had forwarded £52, which had been' distributed locally. Anzac Day services had been well, attended. The second annual reunion had been very successful, representatives from Dunedin, Gore, Roxburgh, Waitahuna, and Greenfield being present. During the year club and association funds had been kept in separate, accounts, and the year had concluded with no subscriptions outstandlng‘ BOROUGH COUNCIL. At the las*t meeting of the Borough Council the Mayor (Mr J. K. Simpson) gave a review of the last year’s work. At the end of the financial year the bank balance showed a credit of £B4 7s-9d. Out* standing rates, rents, and special water supplies were £224 IBs, a total credit of £309 os 9d. The total original loans appearing on the balance sheet of 1931 was £7950. This amount Ifad been- reduced by sinking funds and interest to £3700, and interest on loans was now £204 for the ensuing year, whereas in 1931 it had been £427. A camping ground for motorists had been established. The main highway through Ross place had been tar-sealed at a cost of £612, the Main Highways Board subsidising the work to the extent of £4OO. The borough water supply had been inspected and protected, and 200 feet of piping relaid urom Irvine street to the reservoir.. A public meeting had been held ( during the year to consider the erection of public swimming baths and, on the advice of Mr W. A. Bodkin, M.P., it was decided to make application to the Minister of Internal Affairs for inclusion in the profits of one of the art unions. The Works Committee had carried out much useful work. PRESENTATION. The local railway staff met on Friday night to bid farewell to Mr R, M’Donald, who has been clerk at Lawrence for seven years, and has been transferred to Invercargill on promotion. Mr H. Dunn, on behalf qf the Lawrence, Miller’s Flat, and Roxburgh staffs, expressed the appreciation of his fellow workers for the courtesy received from Mr M’Donald during his stay, and congratulated him on his promotion. On behalf of the gathering, he presented Mr M'Donald With a marble clock. Mr M'Donald suitably replied.
