AN AUSTRALIAN ROMANCE THE HORDERN ESTATE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) SYDNEY, April 6. A romance of riches was woven by the fates around a little Australian who was born in Sydney on Monday, She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Anthony Hordern. Mrs Hordern was formerly Miss Mary Bullmore, youngest daughter of a well-known doctor, of Darling Point, Sydney. The new arrival excited great interest among all those who love a tale of romance, be it romance of the heart or the more material romance of riches. The romance of riches in the case of this particular baby hinged on the decision of the gods whether the child should be a son or a daughter. For. on that circumstance depended the division of the capital of the estate of the late Samuel Hordern, sen.. The beneficiaries under the late Samuel Hordern’s will (.after the payments of certain annuities) were his three sons—-Sir Samuel Hordern and Messrs Lebbeus and Anthony Hordern. A provision of the will is that the corpus of the estate cannot be divided until the youngest son of any of the three is 21 years of age. That was the reason why so much depended on the sex of the child born on Monday. If it had been a son the date of the division of the corpus of Samuel Hordern’s estate would have been postponed for 21 years. But the little stranger is a daughter, and the important date is still fixed by the ages of the grandsons of the late Samuel Hordern, sen. The date will be reached within the next few years. The late Mr Lebbeus Hordern left one son, who is in the twenties. Sir Samuel Hordern also has a son who is in the twenties, and Mr Anthony’s son of his former marriage, the youngest of the three, is now 18 years of age. Thus does the allocation of the fortune depend upon the decision of the fates; and the sex of the new baby determine the duty of the executors.
