GAELIC SOCIETY

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Gaelic Society was held last evening. In the unavoidable absence of the chief, Chieftain M'Lachlan took the chair, being supported by Chieftan’s Bard M'Lennan, M. M'Keuzie, Colin Macdonald, and A. Matheprogramme submitted for the evening’s entertainment was characteristically Highland, consisting of Gaelic and Scottish songs, national dancing, and selections on the “ Phiob Mor.” Songs were sung by the following:—Chieftain’s Bard M‘Lenllau —“ Eileen Mullach,” “ M’run geal dileas,” “ Mairi Chean og Mrs R. MTtae, “ Fear a Chata ” and “ Am faigh a ghaidhlig bus”; Miss Edith Claire, “The Auld Hoose” and “John Anderson My Jo”; Miss Margaret Beattie, “Turn Ye to Me” and “Robin Adair”; Mr Frank Watt, “Lovely Jessie” (a song composed by Bard Angus Cameron Robertson and sung to an old Gaelic air) and “The Mighty Deep”; Mr Dunbar, “Annie Laurie” and “She Is Far From the Land”; Messrs Watt and Dunbar, duets, “ The Battle Eve” and “Watchman! What of the Night.” Master G. Reilly danced a hornpipe, and Miss Maisie Hastings a fling and sean truibhais. Piper Peter Davidson played “ Lochaber’s Gathering ” and “King George the Fifth’s Army.” The accompanists were Miss A. M. George and Mr Colin Oliver. A short dance under the directorship of Mr Alexander M'Kenzie concluded the entertainment.
