RICCARTON TRACK WORK
The weather was mild for the early work at Riccarton on Thursday morning, hut the air was colder after breakfast. Rain during, the night did no more than lay the dust. A few horses galloped on the_ No. 6 grass track, but most of the trainei’s patronised the plough. Some useful work was accomplished, though many of the horses were not required to do their best. ON THE PLOUGH. Silver Scorn was the first out, working bcfoi-e the light became good. Her task was a circuit at a sound pace, the last three furlongs taking 42sec. Muff was given similar work. G. Murray-Aynsley took the pair north last night for the Auckland meeting. Silver Scorn was thus making her final appearance on the local track, where she has been such an attraction this season. Rebel Song gave Zeebrugge a start of about two lengths in a seven-furlong gallop. Rebel Song, showing great dash, was on terms with hi 8 mate after going half a mile, and he finished a neck in front, a margin which he might have incx’eased. The first half-mile was done by Zeebrugge in 50 l-ssec, and the full journey in Imin 31 2-ssec. Rebel Song was going particularly well at the end. Imperial Spear had Nightly as a mate over five furlongs, which they ran in Imin 3 4-ssec. Shatter and Princess Argosy were sent together over seven furlongs. They went off slowly, taking 13 2-sscc for the first furlong, but they reached the half-mile in oOsec, completing their task in Imin 29sec. They were in line at the winning poet, but Shatter was going the better, and his performance was very impressive. Rocket and Heather Glow took Imin 19sec to run six furlongs. Sweet Arrow and St. Joan were mates over five furlongs, which occupied Imin Gsec. Royal Love and Ramo broke off at the mile post. Royal Love was much too good for his mate, whom he beat by five lengths in Imin 44 2-ssec. It was a
useful effort for the winner, evidence that Royal Love is coming on, but Ramo disappointed. Cricket Bat was given useful work, finishing up with three furlongs in 36 3-ssec, a smart gallop. Water Polo had Elude as a mate for six furlongs in Imin 18 l-ssec. True Shaft moved well while sprinting five furlongs in Imin 3sec. Tea Garden and Errantry ran half a mile in 51 4-ssec. Great Star and Grand Review were given useful pace work. Concentrate and Martian Chief went twice round, finishing with half a mile in 53«ec. Gustavo, with Rational II as a mate for the last five, got to the end of six furlongs in Imin 17sec. Gustavo went well. Jaloux and Goldstead did strong work, finishing up with three furlongs in 38 3-ssec. Importance was given useful pace work. Lucky Dive and Eupator ran six furlongs in Imin 18 2-ssec. Metal Bird and Wise Choice were sent for a mile, which they covered in Imin 40 l-sscc. They kept together all the way. and they were not ridden out. Red Heckle went once round at a sound pace, taking 39sec for the last three furiongs. Spoon was given a working gallop once round, pulling up well. A number of Mr J. M. Samson’s horses were out doing useful work, without being required to show their best. ON THE GRASS.. The two-year-old, Guarantee, was kept to half-pace work. Silent Flight had Final Shot as a mate over half a mile in 50sec. The Masquorador accompanied Gay Crest for five furlongs, which they left behind in Imin 2sce. It was a smart effort. Cranford occupied Imin 3 l-ssec iu a spin over five furlongs. Pixie Gold and Chief Light were sent six furlongs, which took Imin 17 3-ssec. Kiri sprinted half a mile in 51 3-ssec, while his stablemate, Verdun, went a furlong further in Imin 4 3-ssee. Lady Valkyrie hit out freely while doing half a mile in 50 2-ssec. Polydora and Nightguard were mates for six furlongs, the former having an advantage at the end, after registering Imin 16 l-ssec. Polydora went well and finished strongly. Dahis and Moab Queen sprinted half a mile in 51sec. Robin Hood galloped a mile in Imin 44 l-ssec having Golden Dart as a mate for the last five furlongs. The Panmure—Bran Pie gelding took Imin 21sec to run six furlongs, but he was not ridden out.
