RAVENSBOURNE BOATING CLUB
BOWIE CUP RACE. A field of 10 starters faced the line on Saturdav afternoon for the Ravensbourne Boating Club's final fixture for the season. This race -n§s for Mr C. G.- Smith's Bowie Cup. The race was started at 3.5 pan.with a nice full-sail southerly blowing, all the boats being bunched at the start. On reaching the Three Legs all the boats were seen to be having a lively time, as the wind had freshened and changed round to the south-east, making for a fast passage down to Challis's buoy_. On the quarter down wind, the. positions were:— Shadow, Tucana, Irex, Eileen, Joan, Rascal, Vivian, Saskia, Frolic. .On the lead back to the Cove these positions were maintained, with the exception of Tucana and Winifred, both of whom had carried away gear. After passing the Cove the front boats had a hard beat to windward*' the wind having veered back to the south. Some also had the misfortune to pile on the banks. The rounding position at the Three Legs Shadow, Irex, Eileen, Joan, Vivian, Rascal, Saskia, Frolic, these also being the finishing positions. It was unfortunate that Winifred had the misfortune to break her spinnaker boom, as at the time of the accident ehe was well up. Winifred was last years winner. ' , . The corrected times resulted in a popular win for Vivian, the placings being as follows:—Vivian (45min), 48min 29see, 1; Saskia (48min), 50min 16sec, 2; Rascal (43min), 52min lsec, 3. Also competed: Tucana (scr) retired, Shadow (4min), Irex (15mm 30sec), Eileen (lOmin 30sec), Winifred (9mm 30sec), Joan (12min 30eec) retired, Frolic (52min). ... ~ During the afternoon two special races were run off by the club's model yacht section, the prizes for. these events being presented by Mr P. O. Gorman. Mr C. Booth had charge of this section and very close finishes were recorded, the placings being as follows: — -,_,,,, A Class.—J. Currie's Anms 1, R. Todd a Eileen 2, P.
