The Kaikorai branch of 'the Women’s Christian Temperance Union held its meeting on Tuesday last. After business had been attended to the meeting took the form of a cradle roll social. As this was the twenty-first year of the union’s existence, a member gave a cake adorned with 21 candles. Mrs Orr, as senior member, presented Mrs Ryan, who is about to leave for Christchurch, with a bouquet and a prettily-worked tray cloth on behalf of the union. Mrs Ryan spoke feelingly about the happy days she had spout with the members. The president welcomed the mothers and cradle roll children, after which she explained the aims of the union—pence, purity, and prohibition. The children provided the items. Songs wore sung by Jean Kennedy, Patricia Adcock, Mamie Kyles, and J. Kennedy, and a recitation was given by Rim a Kennedy. Two Highland dances were given by Nancy Matheson and a sword dance by J. Flctt. Afternoon'tea was served and one mother spoke a few words of appreciation. The fortnightly meetings for March of tlie Dunedin Photographic Society were held on March 111 and 27. At the meeting on March 13 the lecturer was Mr W. B. Seymour, the process demonstrated being Oleobrom. This process is a new one as far as New Zealand photography is concerned and is an elaboration of Bromoil. The lecturer was thanked for his lecture and demonstration. _ The monthly competition was also on display, th“ set subject being “ Street Scene.” A large number of entries, all of excellent tecunique and pictorial ability, were shown. Miss E. B. Jeans’s picture, depicting a pictorial rendering of street repairing, proved the winner. The competition served to show the hidden beauties of many streets in Dunedin. At the second meeting, held on March 27, a record num-
ber of members and friends enjoyed a pleasant two Lours’ demonstration given by Mr Mackersey, of the Kodak Company. Cini films shown included local news reels and glimpses of the Southern Lakes. Mr Mackersey outlined the technique of taking moving pictures with the Kodak Sixteen Millimetre camera. He also explained and demonstrated a nh.n taken with what is known as the double eight.” This camera, he said, took a film which measured only five millimetres or about three-sixteenths of an inch, yet it was projected to give a picture 5 feet by 3 feet. ’This particular film was a study of a child at play. Another feature of the evening was the excellent sound effects and music accompanying the projection. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Mackersey and supper was dispensed by the Social Committee. The Dunedin Radiant Health Club bold an enjovnblo social last Monday evening. The president (Mrs Brooks) presided over a large number of members and friends. The evening was spent in games, social items, and dancing. During the evening an enjoyable supper was served. At the conclusion Mrs Brooks thanked those who bad contributed items.
