Burnside, March 22. Fat Cattle. —A fairly large yarding of 247 head came forward. The quality was below the average, a big proportion being light and unfinished bullocks. The balance was made up of a few pens of prime bullocks and ordinary cows and heifers. The sale opened with prices on a par with last week, but, as the sale progressed, these rates were not maintained, and in some cases it was difficult to effect sales, particularly for light and unfinished- bullocks. Quotations are: Heavy bullocks, to £8 ss; prime bullocks, £6 to £7 10s; medium bullocks, £4 10s to £5 10s; light and unfinished, £3 10s upwards; medium cows and heifers, £3 to £3 10s; light cows and heifers, £1 10s upwards. Fat Sheep.—An average yarding of 2300 sheep was penned. With the exception of three trucks of prime wethers, the yarding was made up principally of ewes, the bulk of which were old and lacking in quality. The market opened on a par with last week’s low prices, and there was little variation throughout the sale. Quotations are:—Prime heavy wethers, to 14a 9d ; hiedlum, 11s to 12s Gd ; light, 8s Gd to 10s; prime ewes, to 6s 9d; medium, 4s Gd to 5s Gd ; light, 3s upwards.
