I WELLINGTON, March 21.; The free charged for the inspection of machinery was declared to be excessive at a meeting of the council of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce. The opinion was expressed that the present examination was a farce, and the activities of the department were seriously affecting the sawmilling industry. CHRISTCHURCH, March 21, In the Police Court to-day Frederick James Weir, aged 28, was remanded to appear at Dunedin on March 28 on a charge of forging the name of Talbert Pirie Hardie to a cheque at Dunedin on or about October 7, 1932. As a result of smart work by the police early this morning, two'men were, caught in the shop of Forbes, Ltd., at Lyttelton. They had allegedly entered by the skylight. Subsequently two exseamen, John Joseph Morrison and John. Thomas Murphy, were charged with breaking and entering and remanded till March 29.
