RADIO BROADCASTING
B CLASS STATIONS THE POSITION IN AUCKLAND (Special - to Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, March 17. The broadcasting from Auckland B class stations of the live banned makes of gramophone records ceased entirely this evening. Since the enforcement of the ban was announced a few weeks ago some of the six stations have continued to broadcast records of the prohibited makes issued before October, 1931, when the ban was first decided upon. From tomorrow, however, none of the prohibited records will be broadcast.
Although efforts to negotiate with the gramophone companies arc continuing station owners generally are not very hopeful of arrangements being concluded. There is still one brand of record now in production available, as well as various types no longer being made. As many records as possible which are not prohibited are being collected. Shorter sessions will probably be necessary in some instances until means of overcoming the present difficulties are found. The quality of the programmes will undoubtedly deteriorate, at least temporarily. Most of the stations are availing themselves oi local talent, one station having already discovered a pianist who instantly won the enthusiasm of listeners. There is no probability of the stations closing. Representatives of the New Zealand branches of the gramophone companies concerned in the dispute who have been conferring with their principals in Australia are understood to have left Sydney by the Monowai for Auckland to-day.
