LAMB FOR CHRISTMAS
GIFTS FROM AUSTRALIA EMBARRASSMENT FOR KING. LONDON, December 7. It is estimated that 100,000 people in Great Britain and Ireland will taste Australian lamb at their Christmas dinners, hundreds of carcasses being stored with local butchers awaiting the coming of yuletide. The Baruado Homes have received 20, including one from a lad accompanied by the message; “ I have made good on the land, and the boss gave me this lamb to send you for sending mo here.” Agents express'appreciation of donors who are paying duty on lambs to ensure their distribution in the Free- State, and especially in Dublin. The Lord Mayor will visit Australia House to-morrow in ceremony to accept the Lord Mayor of Melbourne’s lamb from Captain Richardson, of the Jervis Bay. A number of the Christmas gift lambs sent from Australia have been addressed to members of the Royal Family, and are causing embarrassment. An Adelaide lady sent one to the King, accompanied by a scriptural quotation. The King, however, is not able to accept gifts from private citizens, bnt it is hoped that the lamb will reach some member of the Royal Family.
