FREE KINDERGARTEN

KELSEY-YARALLA. The annual break-up of the KelseyYaralla Free Kindergarten was held on Wednesday afternoon, Mrs D. Phillips, president of the Dunedin Free Kindergarten Association, presiding over a good attendance of parents and friends. In the course of her opening remarks Mrs Phillips said that she was glad to be able to report a successful year’s work, due to the efficient manner in which Miss Macdonald and Miss Hothorington had carried out their duties. The council was very grateful to the local committee, whose practical help and sympathetic interest had been of groat value. This year had been a very difficult one for all. It was Just 12 months ago that the Government had withdrawn its grant to the free kindergartens. This meant a loss of practically £IOOO to the council. If it had not been for help from private citizens and wide publicity from the press it would have been almost impossible to carry on. Mrs Phillips was glad to say that next year the council would bo able to carry on the five kindergartens as usual. A very line programme of Christmas songs and nursery games was then carried out by the children, at the end of which they presented their mothers with gifts off the Christmas tree.
