SMALL BOAT SWAMPS

A FISHERMAN DROWNED HIS COMPANION RESCUED (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, December 13. As the result of the swamping of a small boat off Palmer Head late this afternoon Ernest Edward Jones, aged »j, a single man, was drowned. There were two men in the boat at the time, but the other was rescued by some people who were in another boat in the vicinity. Accompanied by his brother-in-law, Joseph M'Crolion, Jones at the time ot the accident was setting fishing nets. It is believed that the boat was swamped and Jones lost his hold of the craft, ihe plight of M'Crohon, who clung to the boat, was observed by three men in a boat in the vicinity and they wore able to get him aboard. The accident occurred about 5 o’clock, but the sen at that time was too rough to allow efforts to be made to recover the body.
