INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS
MEETING OF OTAGO BRANCH. the annual meeting of the Otago branch of the New Zealand Institute of Architects was held recently, when a full report of the activities of the branch for the year was presented. Although the arehitccural profession is suffering severely from the present .depressed conditions, the report showed that there had been considerable activity during the year in matters of public interest. The agitation for the erection of the new post office was followed very closely and the branch lent valuable assistance in connection with this movement. The No. 10 scheme for subsidised building also engaged the attention of the branch during the year, and representatives from it took an active part in furthering building activity in this city under this scheme in association with the Otago allied building industries. The question of plans being prepared by others than properly qualified architects bad also been carefully considered by the branch. It was pointed out that a small and ill-advised section of the general pifblic who had accepted plans and specifications prepared by unqualified persons received a very poor return for their outlay, ns the work was often lacking in proper constructional planning and external design. Mr E. Miller was elected chairman of the branch for the ensuing year.
