JOHN M'GLASHAN COLLEGE

AN ATTRACTIVE CONCERT The programme of the annual concert of the John M'Glashan College, which was held in the concert chamber of the Town Hall last evening, was striking for wide range and completeness of the artistic training of which it furnished convincing evidence. The standard »of performance was commendably high' throughout, notwithstanding that the demands made upon the usual performers were considerably greater and more exacting than is usually the case with the general run of school concerts. The large audience was obviously delighted by the character of the programme, and as might have been expected from a house which in great, measure comprised the parents and friends of those taking part, the appreciation of effort that was expressed was particularly generous. The choral work was especially impressive and indicated sound and orthodox training to which the boys have responded to excellent effect. The College Pipe Band was responsible for some very enjoyable and competently handled selections, and Mr 6. W. Johnstone’s elocutionary class acquitted itself with special distinction in a recital which was fully appreciated. Among the outstanding features of the evening were’ the playlets presented by the juniors on the one hand and the seniors on the other, and the selection from aural training by Miss Favell’s class was worthy of. particular attention.

The complete programme was as follows:

Selections—(a) "Heroes of Flodden,” (b) “ Skye Boat Song,” college pipe band; songs from “When We Were Very Young” (Simpson), juniors (solos, W. Betting, C. Dickinson); pianoforte solo, “Andantino ’’ (Sibelius); unison songs, (a) "The Sea King” (C. V.
