ROXBURGH NOTES

CENTRAL OTAGO

(From Our Own Correspondent.) ROXBURGH, October 13. Beautiful weather has been experienced here for sdme weeks, and the spring has been one of the beet the district has had for many years. Since the beginning of August there hae been a consistent spell of fine weather. Not for years has the barometer maintained such a high state, and yet there has been a fair amount of rain—l 62 points falling in August and 92 points for September. There has also been a marked absence of wind in comparison with past years, and the_ result is that the whole district is looking remarkably well. Rain fell a few days

ago (20 points), but it was warm and unaccompanied by snow on the hills, which precluded any danger of frost. The orchards never looked better. There are bountiful crops of all fruits, and thinning has already been commenced. TEVIOT POWER BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Teviot Power Board was held on Wednesday, Mr T. P. Michelle presiding. The following members Were present;—Messrs Riach, Macdonald, Waigth, George, and Dr Gilmour. Accounts amounting to £220 8a 7d were passed for payment. Receipts for the month amounted to £269 8s 6d. Mr R. S. Cree Brown, consulting engineer to the board, submitted the report of his recent inspection of the board’s property, which was very satisfactory. The foreman reported that the plant was functioning perfectly, 'and with the warmer weather the load had dropped to 630 kw., which enabled two machines to carry it. A very favourable quotation for cable was receiyed, and it was decided to order two miles. _ . An application for power for mining was granted. It was decided to renew the consequential loss policy for £SOOO. In view of probable applications for power for mining, it wag decided to make inquiries for second-hand transformers.
