SPEED BOAT AS HEARSE
ASHES STREWN IN SEA. In Bridlington Bay. Yorkshire, a few wcfks ago, the ashes of a Leeds man were scattered to the sea and winds from a speed-boat by his son, who was carrying out the last wish of his father. “We were standing on the jetty in the harbour,” said the speed-boat skipper in relating the story, “ when a man carrying a shawl, under which was a casket, came up to us. He said he wanted to be taken two miles out and the boat to be stopped there. We agreed, and made for a point two miles off Flamborough Head. “On the way the man explained his mission. He added that he had motored from Leeds with his mother, who was waiting on shore for his return. We hovcto as desired. The man stood up in the boat, held the casket high above his head, and scattered the ashes. Then he placed a wreath of roses on the water. The flowers drifted after the ashes. “ Not a word was spoken on the return journey. When we landed he said he would take the casket back to Leeds and burn it.
