RIFLE SHOOTING

DUNEDIN DEFENCE CLUB. . The Dunedin Defence. Rifle Club shot' the final competition for the club's, service i championship classification course conditions on Saturday afternoon. There was an attendance of 20. Weather conditions were favourable, and some good scores were registered. Riflemen W* A. Graham, and C. M. Moss* each with 123, were topscorers, the former taking pride of place off the count back. The competition resulted in a tie by Riflemen W. A. Graham and G. H. Smith, tbe_ former winning on the shoot off. The winner holds the cup presented by Rifleman 0. G. Miller for the ensuing season. Following are the highest scores and aggregates;— Scores:—Rfm. W. A. • KAITANGATA DEFENCE CLUB. The Kaitangata Club held a practice shoot on Saturday, when there was a fair number present. The afternoon was fine, with a light fishtail breeze,_ most of the scores being on the low side. At 600 yards, R. M'Crostie, M. Brown, and WOliver were the best performers with 46 each: while at 600 yards R. Thomson’ and J. H. Frazer shared top place with 45 each. Next Saturday the Lee Cup matches are to be started with the first shoot of the first competition,-the ranges to be 300 and 600 yards, seven shots, and two optional sighters. The following are the leading scores:—

Rfm. W. Crowe (41) did not shoot at GOO yards. W. Alexander also shot. WEST TAIERI CLUB. The West Taieri Defence Rifle Club fired its final match on Saturday. The day was not in favour of good shooting. Riflemen L. Hughes was first, H. Fraser second, and A. T. Graham third. Conditions for the prizes were two highest scores out of three shoots to count.'
