WAIKOUAITI RACING CLUB

(From Our Own Correspondent.) WAIKOUAITI, August 29. The annual meeting of the Waikouaiti Racing Club was held on Saturday evening, the president (Mr P. Toomey) presiding over- a good muster of members. Before opening the business proceedings Mr Toomey reminded those present that since their last annual meeting they had lost a number of their members by death, and that several gentlemen who had acted in an official capacity at some of their race meetings had also passed away, and he asked all present to stand in silence for a moment as a mark of respect to their memories. In a brief opening address Mr Toomey claimed that the club was the only one in the South Island that had held a successful meeting, which was a matter for congratulation, the more, so as they had neither accident nor protest at their New Year's Day meeting. Ae their president, he thanked all the officials for their very efficient help, and he welcomed their new vice-president (Mr J. S. Patterson), who had attended the Racing Conference at Wellington, and had so efficiently advanced their claim to a second day's racing that there was now some hope of getting it. Mr A. W. Douglass pointed out that about half of their New Year's Day profits had been spent in improvements to the course, and that another item of expense approaching £IOO was non-recurrent in the future. He considered that their first duty was to the debenture holders, and, given a g°°d meeting on January 1, 1933, the club would be in an excellent position.

The officials for the new year were:— President, Mr P. Toomey; vice-presi-dents —Messrs A. W. Douglass, J. Rochfort, J. J. Puddy, and J. G. Patterson; treasurer, Mr F. W. Inder: committee — Messrs W. M'Dougall, W. Higgins, R; M. Templeton, and D. Russell; clerk of the course, Mr J. R. Dempster; secretary, Mr J. M'Gill; auditors, Messrs Barr, Burgess, and Stewart. . The meeting passed a recommendation to the committee that the stakes for the annual race meeting be equal to those of the last meeting.
