THE WOMEN'S INSTITUTE.

BRANCH ACTIVITIES.

The Awamangu Women's institute held its monthly meeting in the school on August 6. The president, Mrs J. Cochrane, occupied the chair. The president moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mesdames A. Begg, William Grazier, and C. H Taylor, and to Messrs C. H. laylor and J. Ramsay for their help at the birthday party of the institute, which had been held recently. The roll call was " A Funny Story." which afforded a good deal of amusement. The competition was "Six Best Girdle Scones." There were a good many entries, Mrs W. Kirkness being first. Mrs R. M'Credie second, and Mrs R. Craig third. Mrs J. Cochrane entertained during the social half-hour with songs and pianoforte solos, and a competition. Mrs.H. Grazier and Mrs T. Duggan were hostesses for the afternoon.
