SAWYERS’ BAY NOTES
(From Our Own Correspondent.) SAWYERS’ BAY, August 2G. Ideal spring weather prevails, and gardening operations are being pushed on. The soil is in fine tilth, as a consequence of the dry winter, the bright sunshine and the frosts. The" West Harbour Borough is paying close attention to the main thoroughfare, to Port Chalmers, and the road is in excellent condition. At a special meeting of the Sawyers" Bay Unemployment Relief Committee the oiler of Mr Hutton, proprietor of the Laurlcr Picture Theatre, Port Chalmers, to give a benefit screening on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings of the picture “June Moon” was dealt with. This generosity is much appreciated, and it is confidently anticipated that the local relief funds will thereby be considerably augmented. A strong committee has been set up to push the sale of tickets.
