WAGES OF TAILORESSES
EMPLOYERS CONCEDE INCREASE CONCILIATION COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 26. The concession of increases in rates of pay was a feature of Conciliation Council proceedings to-day in connection with the Wellington tailoresses’ dispute. On behalf of the employers it was stated that they were prepared to pay journeywomcn £2 7s 6d a week, less 10 per cent., which would give them £2 2s Od a week, or 4s 6d a week more than the present award rates. The workers asked that coatmakers. should receive something extra. After a retirement the employers announced that they would pay coat hands £2 11s Cd and ordinary hands £2 Bs, less 10 per cent, in both instances. The employers stated that they were granting a very considerable increase. The workers accepted the rates offered. The employers also agreed to a 44-hour week, and the workers agreed to accept the team system. The council then went into committee to consider piecework rates. THE TAILORS’ DISPUTE.' ' NO AGREEMENT REACHED. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 26. No agreement was reached yesterday on the question of wages by the Conciliation Council, which considered the tailors’ dispute, and a motion to refer the dispute to the Arbitration Court was lost. The council adjourned until September 6.
