DR SEARLE'S BANKRUPTCY. (From Our Own Correspondent.) LONDON, July 15. Dr Charles Scarlo, against whom damages were awarded in what became known as the “Helen of Troy” case, is to be served with bankruptcy notices in Kenya Colony, Africa. “ So far,” said a representative of Mr Sidney J. Peters, the solicitor who acted for Mr Place, the plaintiff in the case, “Dr Searle lias not paid any of the costs and damages. Bankruptcy notices were issued in London early this month. Leave was granted to serve them on Dr Searle in Kenya Colony.”

In the case Mr John Dover Place, a grocer’s assistant, of Cambridge, alleged that Dr Searle had “enticed ” his wife from him. There was a disagreement among the jury. Later, judgment was entered for Dr Searle by Mr Justice M'Cardie.

Following an appeal, there was a second trial at the Suffolk Assizes, and the jury found for Mr Place, whom they awarded £SOO damages. The judge ordered that Dr Searle should e also pay the costs of the two trials. Before the second trial took place Dr Searle left England for Kenya Colony with Mrs Place, who went to act as his housekeeper.
