POSITION IN GERMANY
THE ANTI-TERRORIST LAWS A COMMUNIST SENTENCED. BERLIN, August 24. Beyond a charge by 200 police to clear the Beuthen courtyard, where the Nazis were yelling “Surrender our prisoners,” the day passed uneventfully. The severity of the anti-terrorist laws was displayed by a ten years’ sentence on a Berlin Communist for firing a revolver during a political clash. STREET FIGHTING IN BEUTHEN. TWENTY NAZIS INJURED. * LONDON, August 25. (Received August 26, at 1 a.m.) A Beuthen message' states that a rumour that the five condemned Nazis were being removed from the penitentiary caused street fighting that lasted throughout the night, 20 Nazis being injured. A number of Jewish shops were wrecked. The Governor banned street political meetings and the use of motor ears for the transport of demonstrators. The Times Berlin correspondent says: “ The thunderous Nazi propaganda machine is still roaring at full throttle. Herr Goebel, the leader of the Nazis in Berlin, is demanding not mercy but justice. He accuses the Jews of inciting political warfare, and he alleges that their influence secured the death sentences.”
