RETURNED SOLDIERS’ CHOIR

The Returned Soldiers’ Choir will present its secohd concert of the season in the Concert Chamber on Wednesday next, when Charles IR. Williamson, a brilliant lyric tenor from Christchurch, possessing a voice of remarkable purity and range, will make his first appearance here. Mr Williamson has chosen as his chief number Coleridge Taylor’s delightful aria from “ Hiawatha ” “ Onaway Awake, Beloved.” An additional attraction will be a seena from “II Trovatore.” For many years “II Trovatore ” has been the most ,popular opera on the stage, and this has been completely justified, for the opera lias every desirable attribute. Included in the scena will be the duets “ Ah, I Have Sighed to Rest Me” (Miserere) and “Home to Our Mountains.”' Miss Eva Scott will sing the part of Leonora, for.which her dramatic soprano is well suited. Mr W. N. Satterthwaite will sing the music of Manrico, with Mr Ross Hughes as Ruiz. A further special number will be the Grecian triumph song “ Solamis,” a poem of song in honour of the great victory over the Persians. Mr Les Barrow will he the soloist, and the choir will sing eight additional numbers. The choir soloists‘will be Mr Stan Jeffs (tenor), and Mr George Anscll (basso). The Kaikorai Band quartet will play “Love is Meant, to Make Us Glad.” Mr T. J. Kirk-Biirnnand will be at the piano, and Mr John T. Leech will conduct the choir.
