WAIKOUAITI NOTES
(Prom Our Own Correspondent.) WAIKOUAITI, August 13. SUNDAY SCHOOL CONCERT. The annual concert of the Presbyterian Sunday School was held on Tuesday evening, last, the minister, the Rev. T. W. Potts, being in charge of the proceedings. There was a good audience, the accompanists to various musical items being Misses Summers, Sandford, and Lang. ' The programme was as follows: Pianoforte solo. Miss Mavis Hall; recitation, Miss Ethel Jenkins; chonis, Frogs; pianoforte solo, Birtles Kerr; recitation, Agnes Gilchrist; duet, Messrs C. Diack. and. T. Dempster; recitation, Rose Macvean; trio —Messrs, Hallam, Kerr, and M'Kenzie; recitation, Audrey Somerville; piano duet, C. Diack and T. Dempster; recitation, Alwyn Nichol; trio —Miss N. M'Dougal, A. and N. Baxter; violin solo, Jim M'Dougall; recitation, Allan Dunn; chorus, “Japanese Love ,Song ”; recitation, Douglas Holland; song and chorus, Stanley Gilchrist; recitation, Clifford Heenan; dialogue, Mavis Hall, Flossie Johnson, C. Diack, Allison Ferguson, R. M'Dougall, T. Dempster, Jim M'Dougall, Millar, and Nichol. FARMERS’ UNION. The monthly meeting of the Waikouaiti Branch of the Farmers’ Union was held last evening, Mr John Maxwell, jun., presiding over a good attendance, of member's. The subject of “ Internal Combustion Engines ” was introduced by a brief address by an expert member, and this was followed by a series of interesting and informative questions and answers. WOMEN’S BRANCH, The monthly ■ meeting of the women’s branch, of the Farmers’ Union was-also held last evening, Mrs C. W. Ha Hum presiding over a large gathering of members. Mrs Wedge, of the Palmerston Leaders’ School, was introduced as the speaker of the evening. Mrs Wedge explained that she came to them that evening as a messenger from the Leaders’ School, a session of which had recently been held, the teachers being Misses Reid, Johnson, and Crowe. The object of the school was to train leaders who would carry the knowledge gained to groups of women unable to attend the school. The first subject taken was the selection, preparation, and cooking of a “ square meal,” the food values of the materials used being fully explained. Mrs Wedge dealt with other food subjects, and passed on to the cutting out and fitting of patterns for dressmaking. This subject was also ably dealt with, and at the close of the address a vote of thanks was passed to the visitor.
