MYSTERY TRAINS
ro THE EDITOR.
Sir, —Still acting on the old adage that “ the end justifies the means ” our New Zealand railway management, making the most of this present age’s obsession for something new (and if cheap so much the better), is seemingly determined on copying what is being done elsewhere. The camouflage that Sunday excui-sion trains are run to meet the demands of the public when it is the astonishingly cheap fares by these trains which dx’aw the cx’owd, will again be used for these Sunday mystery trains. Notwithstanding the tragic and pathetic times through which so many of our people are passing in this ma terialistic age, which has aggravated man’s inherent selfishness, for expediency’s sake to get more revenue our Railway Board again intends to foster this selfish spirit. If no respect is shown for any higher authority or consideration for those who do so, what is to be the future of all this?—l am, etc., D. J. August 12.
