The Mayor (Mr R. S, Black) spent the week-end at Alexandra. He will return to Dunedin this evening. Mr W. S. Mackay, ex-president of the Methodist Conference, left Dunedin on Saturday morning for Wellington. Mr A. C. Mitchell, president of the New Zealand Employers’ Federation, continued his journey to Invercargill on Saturday afternoon. Mr Vivian S. Jacobs returned to Dunedin from Christchurch by the through express on Saturday afternoon. Mr W. A. Flavell, general manager of the Westport Coal Company, returned to Dunedin from Wellington on Saturday afternoon. , , , ... Dr James Young left for Invercargill on Saturday morning. He will sail from Bluff for London on the Port Alma on August 21, and will rejoin his son, the Rev. R. K, Young, of Enfield, Middlesex, with whom he has now made his home. At a meeting of the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture (states a Press Association message) Mr G. S. Nicol was appointed- secretary of the institute, in succession to the late Mr A. R. Stone. Dr Allon Peebles, of Washington, D.C., United States, is at present on a short visit to Christchurch. Dr Peebles, who is a Ph.D. of Columbia University, has been engaged for the past five years on economic research work in connection wiin the costs of medical care in the United The’Public Service Commissioner.
