MOTOR CYCLE CAPSIZES •MAN FATALLY INJURED. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, August 14. Severe injuries to the head, which later proved to be fatal, were received by James Graham Johnston, an electrician, aged 29, when a motor cycle and sidecar in which he was a passenger capsized. Johnston, who resided at Arch Hill, was riding in the sidecar, the outfit being driven by William Tuck. The accident happened as the machine was turning from Third avenue into Kingsland avenue. The injured man was taken to Auckland Hospital, but died at an early hour this morning. The rider of the machine escaped uninjured. BUSHFELLING ACCIDENTS (Special to Daily Times,) AUCKLAND, August 13. Two bushfelling fatalities have occurred in the Par North, Mr Teri Pirikito Bristowe, a married man, aged 40, was engaged, together with 19 others, on a bushfelling contract at Orakau. Deceased was struck on the forehead by a small limb of a falling tree. He received a fracture of the skull ami died within half an hour without regaining consciousness. Mr David Apiata, a married man, aged 24, of Oromahoe, was engaged with another man in' felling an isolated tree at Wairaate North. Deceased called out to his companion to get clear, but he himself was struck by the falling tree and received a fracture of the skull, and he died later. His companion got clear. The district coroner at Kaikolie, Mr T. Guerin, conducted inquests, and a verdict of accidental death was returned in each instance. Both men were experienced bushmen, and all possible precautions were taken in the felling operations. FOUND DEAD IN STREET (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 13. Douglas Graham Marks, aged 14, of 23 Maire street, Wellington, was found dead at the corner of Dufferin and Ellis streets at noon to-day. It is presumed that he was knocked from his bicycle by a passing lorry, but there were no eye-witnesses. , HEAD-ON COLLISION TWO MEN INJURED. (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 14. A head-on collision occurred between a motor car and a tram at lledcliffs last evening, resulting in Richard Marsell, of Seddon, 68 years of age, and Donald Fuller, of Picton, 63 years of age, occupants of the former vehicle, receiving injuries necessitating their removal to hospital, Marsell suffered injuries to the head and a hand, and Fuller a compound fracture of the left leg. ' DEATH OF A FOOTBALLER COLLAPSES DURING GAME. (Per United Press Association.) TIMARU, August 13. A lad named James Taylor, 18 years of age, whilst playing football at the High School, suddenly collapsed and died. GIRL’S LEG BROKEN A girl named Edith Brown, 19 years of age, residing with her parents at 5 Chapel street, Kaikorai, was admitted to the Hospital on Saturday afternoon suffering from a fracture of the right leg. The injury was received while the girl was sleighing on Flagstaff. THROWN FROM A HORSE A young man named John Tuft, 24 years of age, residing with his parents at Berwick, was admitted to the Dunedin Hospital at 4.45 p.m. yesterday in an unconscious condition. He was thrown from Ins horse whilst riding home from a dance. CROMWELL FATALITY / “ That the deceased died from hamiorrhage into, and laceration of, the brain caused by being accidentally run /o vcr by the side car of a motor cycle at Melmore terrace, Cromwell, on August 9,” was the verdict of the coroner (Mr E. Jolly, J.P.) at the inquest on the death of James Price, a young postal officer, held at the courthouse, Cromwell, on Wednesday morning. Counsel for the relatives of the deceased asked for an open verdict, but the coroner stated that the evidence was conclusive that the tragic event was purely accidental.
