LOAN CONVERSION

SUCCESS ANTICIPATED , TREASURY STATEMENT THIS WEEK. (British Officiali Wireless.) RUGBY, August 13. (Received August 13, at 5 p.m.) A Treasury announcement as to the progress of the war loan conversion operation up to the end of the bonus' month is expected next week. Much progress has been made with the great volume of mail received in the last few days of July and some days afterwards, which delayed the post, consisting mainly of letters from abroad, the number of which was unexpectedly large. There are indications that before July 31 £1,700,000,000 of 5 per cent, war stock will have been converted to 31 per cent, stock, and the final approximate amount shows a considerably higher figure. The total amount of war loan outstanding is £2,087,000,000. City circles do not doubt that the Treasury will be able to announce a very great success, arid anticipate that apart from the (benefits the conversion will confer on the financial situation the operation will encourage other countries with conversion schemes in prospect.
