At the tournament at Rye in the quarter finals Elbert Lewis (Los Angeles) defeated Coen, 6—4, 6—4; Clifford Sutter (New Orleans) defeated Olliff, o—3, 2 —6, o—2; Austin defeated Eugene M'Cauliff (New York); Mangin defeated Manuel Alonzo (New York). NEW YORK, August 13. (Received August 14, at 7 p.m.) In the semi-finals of the Men’s Singles Sutter defeated Austin, o—l, 6 —3, and Mangin defeated Lewis, 9 —7, 6—4. v. In the finals of the Women’s Singles Mrs'Pittman defeated Miss Ridley, 6 —B. 6—l, o—2. GERMAN CHAMPIONSHIPS. AUSTRALIANS ELIMINATED. HAMBURG, August 12. in the semi-final of the German championships Gamin defeated Boussus, 7 —5, 6—2, 6—4; and Menzel defeated Crawford, 6 —4, 6—4, 6—4. (Received August 14, at 7 p.m.) The tennis final in the contest for the State Singles Championship resulted in Moon beatiug the youthful Sydney player M’Grath, 7—5, 6—3, 6—2. M'Grath had defeated Cummins in the semi-finals and Grinstead in the quarter-finals.
