THE POST OFFICE
TO tHE EDITOR Sir, —As this morning’s Daily Time* contains a second effusion from Mr Paapa with reference to the building of the Dunedin Post Office,. I hasten to assure him that he has our sympathy, and that the people of this /fair city realise what an eyesore the post office site, must .he;,to the guests of his hotel,, and also realise the benefit that will accrue to the new Post Office environment during the con-struction-of the building. _ , V, There is, however, a modicum of truth in the assertion attributed to a ‘ Minister of the Crown that, “ the people of Dunedin, under present'• conditions, are not anxious about the building of their Post Office until conditions financially ,hn prove.” r . : Of opinions which one may 2 hear, anywhere when the Post Office building- is discussed, a decided majority is that the country is in great need of the quarter of a million that will, be spent on build ing the Post Office, and that it would ;bt more beneficial at present to use it is handing back the ,1s 9d per week to thf old-age pensioners and in giving som* considerable assistance to thousands pi unemployed girlg and boys. At least they are flesh and blood, not motar and bricks. —I am, etc., ■ . S.;; ■
