TAPANUI NOTES
(From Ocr Own Correspondent,; TAPANUI, July 4. FOOTBALL. The first district representative match of the season was played at Tapamn on Saturday when West Otago defeated Tuapeka by 8 points to 5. The ground was in a very wet aud sloppy 'concii~ tion consequent on a week’s snow and rain. Rain fell almost incessantly throughout the game, and good football ■was out of the question. The luck of the toss favoured West Otago, who played with the wind and the slope of the ground in their favour, and in this spell did most of the attacking, M'Knight and. Oliver scoring, and Faulks converting the letter's try. In the second spell the visiting team hold the upper hand, and were unlucky to score only one try, Treacy being the scorer, while MTherson converted. No interval was taken, the teams changing right over. With a dry ground and ball a much better exhibition would have been given as both sides threw the ball about, but owing to the conditions little headway was made by either set of backs in their attempts at passing. Mr 0. Duff gave satisfaction as referee. The following team has been chosen to represent West Otago against South Otagoto he plaved at Balclutha on Saturday next;— Tuffley, M'Knight. M‘Cal!, Herbert, Faulks, Deuehrasa, Perrimn. Feeh. ley, Oliver. MTntosh, Halm, Aitchison, Varcoe, Kennedy, Ottrey (captain).
