AMATEUR ATHLETICS
RAISING OF LOVELOCK’S EXPENSES REPLY TO OTAGO CENTRE. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 4. The president of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association (Mr R. W. M'Villy) made a statement at a meeting of the council to-night in reply to a letter from the Otago Centre taking exception to remarks which he had passed at a recent meeting concerning Otago’s attitude in connection with the raising of expenses to send Lovelock to the Olympic Games. He had suggested that Otago should raise £SO towards that end, but the Otago Centre had replied that this was a national matter. It was not until the Timaru High School had busied itself in the matter that Otago had done anything. Right throughout the piece, Mr M Willy said, he had Been careful not to introduce any personalities, but he had noticed that in every .instance the Otago Centre had made a personal '/attack upon him. Otago’s attitude in connection with the raising of Lovelock’s expenses had not been creditable, and he could not understand its attitude at all. A. A. Cameron’s performance in covering 47ft 4fin in the hop, step, and jump at Logan Park on April 2 last was confirmed as a record.
