MELANESIAN MISSION

NEW SOUTHERN CROSS LAUNCHED, FREE OP DEBT. (Per United Press Association.), AUCKLAND, July 4. Archbishop Averill this morning received a cablegram advising him that the new Southern Cross had been successfully launched and would be dedicated by the Archbishop of Canterbury on July 20. She will sail for Auckland free of debt. “ I think that a most noble effort has been made at Home,” said Archbishop Averill. “The people of England have found money in these difficult times for a new vessel for the Melanesian mission, and have even raised sufficient fluids to pay the expenses of the Southern Cross to her destination. It shows the interest that is still taken in the mission in England since the times of Bishop Selwyn and Bishop Patteson.”
