OTAGO MOTOR CLUB

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of members of the Otago Motor Club was held in the clubrooms last night, the president (Mr J. L. Passmore) in the chair. SCHOOL PATROLS. Inquiries were received from the Taranaki and Manawatu Associations asking for particulars of the Otago Club’s schools’ patrol scheme.—The chairman, in reporting that the secretary had been instructed to supply the necessary information, said that it was gratifying to find that North Island associations were so interested in the scheme. WATER FOR MOTORISTS. A letter was received from the Otago Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals drawing attention to the practice, adopted by some motorists, of using oily cans to obtain water from horse troughs, and asking the club to bring the matter under the notice of its members. The chairman said that a week before the society’s letter was received the secretary had had tins with spouts placed near all water troughs for the use of motorists. The club appealed to all members to_ use the tins and to see, as far as possible, that they were not damaged, and were replaced after use. ENGINE HEADLIGHTS. The Palmerston branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union wrote forwarding a request from the station master at Palmerston that motorists approaching the station from the north should dim their headlights so as to prevent the lights of the cars interfering with the men employed in shunting operations. The writer pointed out that the Railways Department had issued instructions for the drivers of engines standing at the station to dim their headlights for the benefit of motorists approaching from the north. The letter was received, and the chairman asked members to comply, where possible. with the request. FINANCE. The treasurer (Mr G. S. Kirby) reported that subscriptions had been coming in more freely than was the case earlier in the year, but there was still nearly £ISOO outstanding. NEW MEMBERS. Nineteen new members were elected. REVISED RULES. At the conclusion of the business, a special meeting was held to consider the proposed new rules of the club. After some discussion, the revised rules, with several amendments, were adopted.
