BUS DRIVER’S LICENSE

CANCELLATION BY BOARD AN INDIGNATION MEETING. (Per United Press Association.) WAIMATE, June 14. A largely attended indignation meeting discussed the position of Andrew Shanks, who lost his license for a bus run from Waimate to Timaru. Shanks lost his leg in an accident, and purchased the bus business in May, 1931, with his compensation money. The local licensing authority licensed Shanks, but a competitor appealed and the Appeal Court cancelled the license. _ , The meeting, which included ministers of religion, the Mayor (Mr G. Dash), and Mr J. Bitchener, M.P., agreed that Shanks’s service had been satisfactory and protested against legislation which forced him off his run and provided no compensation. It was agreed to support him in any transport business undertaken; and also to suggest that the Railways Department should engage |him to. transport passengers from Waimate to Studholme in place of the railway bus.
