LOVELOCK’S BRILLIANT RUN STAMFORD BRIDGE SPORTS (United Press Association.) (By Electrlo Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, June 11. (Received June 12, at 8 p.m.) J. E. Lovelock broke the 37-year-old world’s record for three-quarters of a mile at the civil service sports at Stamford Bridge, covering the distance in 3rnin 2 l-ssec after a brilliant run, in which he forged ahead in the back straight. The track was measured, and it was found that Lovelock had run nearly three feet over the three-quarters of a mile. A Frenchman, J. Ladoumegue, has done the distance in 3min 0 3-ssec, but tlie International Federation has not yet passed that record, Lovelock started from scratch, and finished fourth. GREAT RUNNING BY NEGRO. (Received June 12, at 8 p.m.) Ralph Metcalf, a negro runner from Marquette University, set three new world’s records as follows: — 100 metres, 10 l-ssec. 220 yards, 204 sec. 200 metres, 20 l-ssec. • He also equalled the 100 yards record of OJsec, all these phenomenal times being registered in the National Collegiate trials. He will probably represent the United States at the Olympic Games.
