The Awamoko Club showed the best improvement this week, and secured the highest average for the first 10 riflemen. The positions of the teams for the week's shooting are as follow: —Awamoko 77, Railway 75.8, Weston 75.1, Oamaru 75, Maheno 74.6, Totara 73.6, Enfield 73.3, Duntroou 71.9. With the exception of Awamoko and Railway the shooting was not so good this week. So far no entries have been received for the North-Otago Times Shield competition, but the lists- of teams from thevarious clubs are expected to come to hand on either Monday or Tuesday of next week. . When forwarding teams to the secretary of the association it will also be necessary for the individual scores of the last four shoots to be sent in. It is expected that there will not be so many teams as last year, but, no doubt, the usual keenness will prevail once the competition commences. At Awamoko this week the shooting waa of a high standard, and the best so far season. The first 18 men averaged 74.7—a very creditable performance. R. Fillingham showed something of histoid form, and was only one point off the possible. This was a decided improvement to his previous week’s shoot of 72. A. Ludeman also showed up better this, week with 79 as against 73. R. Gibson; did not shoot so well, and can do muchbetter. D. Borrie slipped badly, and: only secured 72 as compared with 77 on the previous week’s shooting. W. Gibson, S. O’Dell, and N. M'Phee all shot well to notch 78’s. The trophy presented by Mr Leslie was won by S. O’Dell, and the second prize given by the club was secured by A. Ludeman. ■ The shooting at Duntroon this week was very low, .and better things are expected of the i. riflemen there. W. Rutherford, E. Knight, J. M'Cully, and E. Ravenwood headed the list with 75 s. J. M'Cully, who generally puts on a good score, did not show up so well. The members of this club must have the shield shoot in view and are looking for good handicaps. It is to be hoped that next week’s shoot will show an improvement. The Enfield Club’s scores this week showed a better average than the previous week 7 but the club has not yot reached its topmost form. H. Bradley came to light this week and headed the list with 76. 6. Allan bettered his score of the previous shoot by two, as did also B. Johnstone. The M'Naughton brothers are not showing up so well this season so far as they did last, and the small target must be giving them trouble. Although the shooting at Maheno was quite fair the scores were below last week’s. D. Grant again headed the list with 77. Don must be taking things seriously now and has,, settled down to business. J. Lindsay 'Went up several “nicks” this week, and with his 76 showed good improvement. A. Lindsay did not go well this .week, however, and dropped from 78 to 74. G. Davis, with 75, is gradually creeping up, and for a young shot does very well indeed. The Oamaru Club fired a sweepstake shoot last Monday night. A young member in A. Dick proved the winner with 76, with H. Koppert second an c ( I. Swinard third. H. Koppert secured the highest score off the rifle with 78, this being three up On his previous week’s shoot. T. Kennedy came to light again with a good score and notched 77, the second highest score of the evening. About 25 members competed in the sweepstake, and altogether about 30 members turned out to the shoot. About six teams from this club will be entering in the Shield Competition. My Railway correspondent writes that at the weekly shoot R. Lawrie headed the list with 78, thus carrying off the rifle button. A. Brown slipped back to 75. A. Wilson is the most consistent shot in the club at the present time, having three consecutive 77’s to his credit, and pulling off the handicap button at the last shoot. Dame Rumour has it that his brother, E. G., is getting married soon. At least he has been seen with a “Miss” on two Thursday nights_ in succession so it looks like developing into a “ Mrs ” shortly. D. Marshall, W. Smith, and M. Sinclair were the only riflemen to do any good at the Weekly shoot of the Totara Club. The other scores showed a decided drop, and better things arc expected of this chib. The average for the first 10 men was only 73.6 as compared with 75.2 this week. D. Marshall, with 78, put on his best score of the season so far, and this is more like the Daye of old. W. Smith slipped this week from 78 to 76. Mark Sinclair, who has only recently joined up with the club, notched a 76, but will soon settle down to his old form, and will no doubt be putting on a possible in the near future. W. Sewell, with 78, took the lead at the Weston Club’s shoot, and is to be congratulated on his marked improvement. W. Laney went bettor this week and bettered his score by two. Both the rifle and handicap button were won by .W. Sewell. G. Campbell dropped back several this week. K. Brightivell is not showing such good form as is expected of him. PERSONAL At a meeting of the. North Otago Rugby Union last night a motion of condolence was carried with the Macdonald family in the death of Mr J. G. Macdonald. QnCcn's Hotel. —Mr E. C. Goldstoiie (Auckland), Mr S. Clements (Wellington). Mr J. Wood, Captain Charman, Mr J. C. Wilson, Dir Best (Christchurch), Dir R. Isaacs (Timani). Mr J. Bradley, Mr E. J. Wilson, Mr H. Graham (Dunedin). NORTH OTAGO RUGBY UNION A special meeting of the North Otago Rugby Union was held last night, Dir W. Atkinson presiding. louring team north from August 3 to io. On account of the tour it was decided to notify the Canterbury Union of the team’s inability to play at Christchurch this year, but it was decided to otfer July 2 or a date late in September to the Ashburton Union for a match at Ashburton.
