Mr D. Solomon was a passenger by the express yesterday morning en route to Wellington. Mr W. J. M. Aitken left by the express yesterday morning on a business visit •to Wellington. Mr Keith Ramsay left by the express yesterday morning en route to Wellington.
Mr J. Halligan, manager for New Zealand of Gollin and Company Pty., Ltd., is at present visiting Dunedin. He will leave for the north to-morrow. His Honor Mr Justice 'Frazer and Messrs _T. Jordan and Lisle Alderton arrived in _ Dunedin yesterday afternoon from Christchurch, and will attend a sitting of the Transport Appeal Board today. His Honor will remain in Dunedin to preside over a sitting of the Arbitration Court on Tuesday, The Christchurch Presbytery oh Tuesday accepted with regret the resignation of the Rev. James Lymburn, who for 10 years haS been the presbytery’s hospital chaplain. The resignation will take effect from August 31. A Press Association cablegram from London states that the High Commissioner (Sir Thomas Wilford) has gone to Geneva, and will afterwards proceed to Lausanne.
A Press Association cable message from Sydney states that Archdeacon S. J. Kirkby has been elected coadjutor bishop of the diocese of Sydney in succession to the late Bishop Darcy Irvine. A Press Association cable message from London states that the Hon. Alexander Shaw has been appointed chairman of the P. and 0. Company in succession to the late Lord Inchcape. It is announced by the Public Service Commissioner (says a Press Association telegram) that Mr 6. E. Miller, district Public Trustee at Wellington, has been appointed to the position of deputy superintendent of tlje State Advances Department in succession to Mr A, A. Prichard, who recently retired on superannuation. Mr Miller is a qualified solicitor.
A gathering of over 70 prominent citizens of Napier was held yesterday morning for the purpose of tendering a farewell to Superintendent D. J. Cummings, late officer commanding the Napier Police Force, ■ who was recently transferred to ! Christchurch on promotion. Speakers, representative of all the_ municipal, commercial, legal, and sporting interests in Napier, paid tribute to the departing officer’s worth, particular reference being made to his magnificent service during the earthquake disaster. A presentation was made of a cheque, two travelling rugs, and a leather hand bag, all to be held in trust by his wife until the completion of his service.
