Line’s chartered motor ship Ashburton, en route from New York, has reported by wireless that the vessel will arrive at Auckland to-morrow. The Union Company’s Walkawa, cn route from Los Angeles, arrived at Papeete' on June 5. KABAMEA PROM LIVERPOOL. The Shaw, Savill Company’s motor ship Karamca, from Liverpool, via Capetown, was expected to reach Auckland last evening. She has cargo from Glasgow and Liverpool for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. WESTMORELAND LEAVES BALBOA. The Federal Company has received cable advice that the Westmoreland, cn route from Liverpool to Auckland, Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin and New Plymouth, cleared Balboa on May 31. She Is due at Auckland on June 21. MATAROA REPORTS ALL WELL. The Shaw, Savill Company has received a wireless message from the liner Mataroa, which left Auckland on May 28 for Southampton and London, via the Panama canal, reporting that she lias been experiencing favourable weather conditions and that all on board are well. CARGO FROM LIVERPOOL. The Shaw, Savill steamer Malmoa Is scheduled to leave Liverpool on July 16 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. She should arrive at Auckland about August 25 and at Dunedin about September 5. OPAWA’S MOVEMENTS. To continue her Homeward loading to the agency of the Federal Company, the New Zealand Shipping Company’s motor ship Opawa arrived at Wellington on Saturday evening from Dpua. She was to leave Wellington for Lyttelton, Tlmaru, Port Chalmers and Bluff to complete. She is due at New Plymouth about June 12. The Walkouaiti, from Newcastle, left Sydney, on June 4 for Bluff. Dunedin, Tlmaru and Lyttelton. PORT GISBORNE FROM NEW YORK. The Commonwealth and Dominion Line’s motor ship Port Gisborne arrived, yesterday morning from New York, via Colon, Panama, Auckland, Tokomaru Bay, Wellington, and Lyttelton. She was berthed at the George street wharf; Port Chalmers, to discharge a quantity of American merchandise and load frozen meat for London. The vessel sailed from New York on April 30. Colon was reached on May 7 and Balboa was cleared the same day. Generally fair weather prevailed until the vessel was nearing New Zealand, when she encountered a strong south-westerly gale and high head seas, which necessitated her being hove-to for 30 hours on May 28 and 29. The Port Gisborne arrived at Auckland on May 30. Captain W. G. Higgs is In command and he has associated with him the following officers:— Chief, Mr H. C. Jeffrey; second, Mr R. B. Llnklatcr; third, Mr L. J. Skalles; fourth, Mr W. Mldworter; chief engineer, Mr C. S. Hammerton ; second, Mr Gibbs; junior second, Mr V. Potts; third, Mr W. H. Langley; junior third, Mr A. G. G, Broom ; chief steward Mr H. W. Bray. The Port Gisborne is to sail to-morrow for Bluff to continue loading. She will also load at Lyttelton, Plcton and Wellington, and Is scheduled to clear the latter port on June 22 for London, via Montevideo and Dakar. BLOW TO SHIPBUILDING. TWO CLYDE YARDS TO BE SCRAPPED. National Shipbuilders’ Security (Ltd.), an organisation formed within the Industry itself to close redundant shipyards, officially announced onaAprll 14 that three additional mer-. chant shipbuilding yards, two on the Clyde, and one on the English north-east coast, have been purchased by them. The three shipyards, which are now to be dismantled (continues the statement), represent a total of 11 berths, and a maximum annual output capacity of 115,000 tons, and are as follow: —Archibald M’Mlllan and Son, Ltd.; Dockyard, Dumbarton; West yard of Barclay, Curie,: and Co., Ltd., of Whltclnch, Glasgow ; and the Southwick yard of Robert Thompson and Sons, Ltd., Sunderland, Barclay, Curie and Co. are the second oldest shipbuilding firm in’ Britain, and have turned out many notable vessels. Archibald M’Mlllan and Son, Dumbarton, are also a concern of long standing, but no vessels have been launched from the establishment for some two ycjrs past. FEDERAL STEAMER HUNTINGDON. The Federal liner Huntingdon, which arrived at Wellington on June 4 from London, with a slight leak due to the. heavy pounding ,she received during a five-days' gale when approaching New Zealand, was drawing only 11 fe«t forward and had only 400 tons of ballast to steady her. During the gale her bow was repeatedly lifted right but of the water to come down with a tremendous crash, the vessel being shaken as if she had struck a rock. It was this pounding that caused the leak to develop, and the forepeak of the vessel was being cleared out yesterday to permit an Inspection. The Huntingdon Is of 10,951 tons, and Is the biggest cargo ship to come to New Zealand, and one of the biggest cargo vessels afloat. She holds a record for cargo lifting, having brought out to Australia towards the end of 1929 a cargo of no loss than 16,655 tons, the largest cargo ever brought to Australia or New Zealand, and one of the biggest ever lifted In one bottom. The present Is the Huntingdon’s third consecutive trip to New Zealand in ballast. Captain H. G. B. Field is in command of the Huntingdon, and his officers arc:—Chief, Mr P. S. Calcutt; second, Mr T.
