ENGLISH CRICKET TEAM
VISIT TO THE DOMINION NEWSPAPER’S REVELATIONS LONDON, May 20. (Received May 20, at 11.50 p.m.) The News-Chronicle, claiming to reveal exclusively the truth about the M.C.C. match negotiations with the Australian Board of Control with respect to the New Zealand tour, declares that the board strongly objected to an extension of the English team’s tour to New Zealand, considering that New Zealand should make its own arrangements. The Chronicle adds: “ New Zealand sent a representative to Australia, where he was most rudely received, the board giving him only a few minutes to state his case and informing him that 'its decision had already been made and that the representative could read its statement in the newspapers. Meanwhile, the English counties decided that the M.C.C.’s original request should be unalteerd, Australia being politely told that if it could not. agree there might be some question of cancelling the tour. Subsequently the Board of Control saw its mistake. The fact that the M.C.C. is able to fulfil its programme in Australia and New Zealand is regarded as a triumph of tact and diplomacy.” AUSTRALIAN DECLINES TO COMMENT. SYDNEY, May 20. (Received May 20, at 11.50 p.m.) Mr R. A. Oxlade, questioned about the suggestion of rudeness to-night, declined to comment. He declared that any statement with regard to the negotiations with New Zealand must come from the chairman, Dr Robertson, of Melbourne.
