FRIENDLY SOCIETIES

DRUIDISM. The fortnightly meeting of Mistletoe Lodge was held in St. Mark's Hall, Green Island, on Tuesday, A.D. Bro. G. Webster presiding over a very large attendance of members and visitors. Linden and Good Intent Lodges attended officially, and were received with musical honours, other visitors being Secretary Bro. Brockie (Ivanhoe), A.D. Bro. T. W. Ruston, and Secretary Bro. W. B. Ruston (Bay Lodge). The bards again reported that there were no sick brethren on the funds of the Order. The lodge decided to invite Royal Oak Lodge to take part in a debate on June 21. Several brethren expressed their intention of visiting Hampden Lodge on Saturday, June 4. The remaining business was quickly despatched, and the following brethren replied to the toast of the visitors:—A.D. Bro. Miller (Linden), A.D. Bro. Davidson (Good Intent), A.D. Bro. Ruston (Bay), and Secretary Bro. Brockie (Ivanhoe). The A.D. adjourned the lodge so that members of Linden Lodge and other visitors might enjoy a game of quoits and deck tennis while Good Intent aud Mistletoe Lodges played a challenge match for the Euchre Shield. After a keen contest Good Intent Lodge proved victorious. The meeting of Ivanhoe Lodge was well attended by members and visitors, A.D. Bro. E. Heather occupying the chair. The competition team held a mock initiation, its performance meriting praise from the members. The Cricket Committee reported What progress had been made in its sphere, and the secretary notified that the proposed trip to Hampden would take place on June 4. There being very little business to attend to, the brethren indulged in a friendly game of cards. R.A.D. Bro. Hughes presided over a good attendance of officers and members at the last meeting of the Royal Arch Chapter held in the new meeting place. It was decided that the chapter meeting in future be held on the second Tuesday in each mouth. A small committee was appointed to review the rules governing the Ross-Stewart Shield competition. P.G.P. Bro. Jacobson, assisted by P.G.G. Bro. Reid, installed the officers into their respective chairs. P.G.P. Bro. Dove thanked the brethren for the confidence they had placed in him by returning him as their Royal Arch Druid for the current term. It was decided that the competition for the Ross-Stewart Shield should be held on July 30. The half-yearly meeting of Lily of the Valiev Lodge was presided over by A.D. Bro. Wahrhch, a good atendance of members being present. Correspondence, sick pay, and accounts were received and dealt with. It was reported, that All Nations had won the Euchre Shield. One candidate was admitted into the Order and two proposed for the next meeting. The nomination and election of officers took place, the result being as follows: J.P.A., Bro. O, Wahrlich; A.D., Bro. R. Reid; V.A., Bro. J. E. Robertson;'treasurer, Bro J. Robertson; 1.G., Bro. F. H. Walker; 0.G., Bro. T. F. Bennett; A.D. bards, Bros. R. Morris and J. Munro; V.A. hards, Bros. J. M. Gray and R. Carr; M.C., Bro. H. Green; pianist, Bro. A. Fowler; auditors, Bros. B. Reid and B. Brown. The delegates to the U.F.S. Dispensary, Bros. Green and Reid, gave their report concerning the recent meeting* and received a vote of thanks. The sitting officers decided to enter for tire efficiency competition, and impressed the necessity of careful attention to details of ceremonial work. . A.D. Bro. Connell presided oyer a fair attendance at the meeting of Olive Branch Juvenile Lodge. After routine business had been transacted one candidate was initiated into the Order, the officers carrying out their duties in a creditable manner. Bros. Powell (2) and Dalton favoured the lodge with several items, and community singing was indulged in. D.b. Bro. Bradshaw was in charge in the absence of Bro. Avery through indisposition. It was decided to meet early next lodge night on account of the celebrations in connection with the “ Come to Dunedin ” Week. The lodge closed early.
