LARGE SUM STOLEN
WEALTHY AUSTRALIAN’S LOSS VICTIM OF CONFIDENCE TRICK (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) PARIS, May 18. (Received May 19, at 7 p.m.) Mr James Watson, aged 65, a wealthy Australian sheep farmer, has informed the police that confidence tricksters swindled him of £40,000. He said that he met a man styling himself “ James Coaten, a Canadian banker,” who introduced “an American, financier” named Jamieson. " Mr Watson accepted Jamieson’s invitation to join a deal in'exchange involving £240,000, each contributing £BO,OOO, to be deposited at a broker’s office. • Mr Watson had £40,000 sent from a London bank. Jamieson said that he had to go to Genoa on business, and Coaten disappeared on the railway station. Neither of the men has seen since.
